Artist Spotlight: Danny Saber
This issue's Artist Spotlight features Danny Saber, a Los Angeles based producer, remixer, engineer, and DJ who's credits include working with artists ranging from Sheryl Crow to Madonna to Public Enemy. He is also known for his years of playing guitar and bass with the Manchester, England-based Black Grape. Saber is not an easy artist to categorize; he has strong alternative rock credentials, but he has also embraced everything from hardcore rap to industrial to trip-hop. Danny Saber has lent his talents to create music for the CBS television series, The Defenders, as well as various commercials including McDonald's, Taco Bell, and Coors. Saber is no stranger to DeepMix and has collaborated with DeepMix on various projects, including creating music for a recent spot featuring NFL star Chad Ochocinco for Wonderful Pistachios. Canadian Music Week
With the music conference and festival season in full-swing, DC attended Canadian Music Week earlier this month in Toronto to check out the music scene and speak on the “Brands & Bands: Music Sponsorships in Perfect Harmony” panel at the conference. The panel is one of CMW's most successful sessions, gathering key players who have led some of North America's most wildly effective music-integrated promotions. DC saw live performances by well- known artists like Papa Roach, Good Charlotte, and Buckcherry, as well as Australian indie bands The Jezabels and Birds of Tokyo. DeepMix Wins At the ADDYsDeepMix took home the Bronze Award for Busch Gardens "My X" in the Music With Lyrics category at the Los Angeles ADDY Awards last week. Dave Curtin and Momentum St. Louis creative Rebecca Reardon attended the awards gala at the Beverly Hilton on Friday, March 25th. A big thanks to the American Advertising Federation for having us! McDonald's McFarmerDeepMix began 2011 with the release of a McDonald's commercial airing in France, featuring music by DeepMix partner and composer Brad Colerick with legendary bluegrass artist Herb Pedersen. The "McFarmer" spot, by advertising agency TBWA\Else, was shot in South Africa and directed by Justin Reardon. The commercial features two real life dragster race cars while a harvester races alongside at an impressive pace. Check out the spot below:
Guest DJ: Justin Reardon
Sitting in as this issue's Guest DJ is director Justin Reardon. Now a Los Angeles native, Reardon grew up in Tranquility, New Jersey, where art, music and sports were a steady diet. After playing Division 1 Football at Miami University of Ohio and earning a degree in Fine Arts, Reardon broke into the advertising industry. Reardon co-created the iconic Budweiser “Whassup” campaign, which won the Cannes Grand Prix, and, soon after, Budweiser's Emmy-nominated Jersey Guys' “Howyadoin'?” campaign.
Reardon's passion for film making catapulted him into directing full-time, directing commercials for Budweiser, AT&T, and EA as well as working with DeepMix on spots for McDonald's and Axe. Reardon shows no sign of slowing down as a key player in the industry, recently completing his first short film, Zoltan: The Hungarian Gangster of Love, and has two features in development.
