DeepMix Guest DJ

Long known by the DeepMix crew to have some of the best ears in the biz, Doug WalkerDoug Walker of Filmcore SF is mainly called upon for his visual editing skills and instincts. His client list is a who’s who of advertisers pushing the envelope of creativity. We understand he also rules at guitar hero (at least on the Med. level).

We asked Doug for a peek into his iPod and here’s what we found:

Trust Me

We’ve been glued to the new TNT series, Trust Me, created by our good friends John Coveny and Hunt Baldwin. Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) and Tom Cavanagh (Ed) star in this sharp, witty drama series that centers on two best friends working as creative partners at a Chicago ad agency. Sadly, we won't be seeing a Season 2 since the show has been canceled. If you missed it you can buy the entire Season 1 for $25 on iTunes by clicking here. You won't be sorry -- trust me!

Artist Spotlight

With it's Johnny Cash bravado... Austin Hartley-Leonard's debut cd "Franklin Ave" delivers classic Americana songwriting combined with the textures of Nick Drake and The Band.

Austin Hartley-LeonardHartley-Leonard began as a solo singer/songwriter in Austin, TX. His first demo, on which he played most of the instruments, earned him an invitation to the SXSW Festival. Soon after, he began looking for musicians to round out the band, and the group St. James Inc was born.

After releasing the "8 Hours" EP in 2006, St. James Inc performed at the Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago and then relocated to Los Angeles, where they continued to build upon their success. You can hear their tunes in the film "Moving McAllister", and the hit show "Men In Trees" on ABC as well as on a Troy-Bilt spot in which DeepMix placed a newly penned Austin song called “Shining Down”.

Around Town

LA offers a vast number of venues to appease even the most diverse music lovers. If roots soul, funk and hip hop are your bag, Root Down is the place for you. Every Thursday night for eleven years running, Root Down has provided a consistent calendar of the freshest new acts to hit the scene, be it a DJ, emcee, full band or even returning big name artists that got their start on the Root Down stage. The backbone, however, are the five resident DJs who relentlessly support the standard of Root Down with mixes paying homage to the fathers (and mothers) of soul, funk, Latin and hip hop, creating one of the most relaxed and genuine vibes in the city.

For more info visit rootdownclub.com or for a good, soul-stirring time visit Root Down at Little Temple - 4519 Santa Monica Blvd. – Thursdays @ 9:30pm.
